Exclusive Interview With Avon Global Stylist Tippi Shorter
To help women overcome hair woes that seem to become much more frustrating in the summer months Avon set-off on a tour introducing their new humidity-fighting product, Advance Techniques Frizz Control Lotus Shield. Earlier this week Avon, with the help of Cosmopolitan Magazine, brought their tour to Atlanta and offered free blowouts to anyone who signed up for one. They of course used their new Lotus Shield products and I can definitely attest to the line being amazing. I received a blowout (wash, blow-dry, and flat-iron) during the event and surprisingly enough it’s now three days later and my hair has yet to become a frizzy, poof ball. Anyone who knows me knows that I NEVER blow-dry or flatiron my hair in the summer months when it’s hot and humid. It’s pretty much pointless because the humidity eventually makes my straight hair poofy, frizzy, and downright awful, but like I said it’s days after my blowout and my straight hair is still going strong.
During the event I was lucky enough to get an interview with hair stylist and Avon global stylist Tippi Shorter. She also partially flat-ironed my hair so that was pretty exciting. (Yay!) Tippi has worked with a number of celebrities including Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, and Rihanna. She has also worked backstage at numerous runway shows. Check out my interview with Tippi below and if you live in New York City or Philadelphia click here for more info on when Avon will be stopping in your city.

LRG Debuts Fall 2010 Collection (Video)
With fall right around the corner urban brand LRG has decided to give fans a taste of what they can expect from LRG's fall 2010 collection. LRG shows off their new collection in a video that features the LRG skate team, rapper Curren$y, and graffiti artists Pose & Augor. The photo shoot for the fall 2010 collection as well as the accompanying video were both shot in New Orleans, Louisiana. I think New Orleans was a great choice for LRG's shoot, it's a beautiful city and it's definitely an unexpected location for the debut of a new collection.
The fall 2010 line features three different deliveries and the first is available in stores now. Visit L-R-G to view the new line and to make a purchase.

Ibrahim Ferrer - "Que Bueno Baila Usted"
So I was listening to my Cesaria Evora Pandora station earlier this week and while listening I came across a song by a singer named Ibrahim Ferrer. The song was amazing and after listening to it I of course added an Ibrahim Ferrer station on Pandora and I've been watching/listening to his songs on YouTube all week. Ferrer, who passed away several years ago, was an Afro-Cuban artist who gained much fame due to his music.
According to Wikipedia, Ferrer's mother actually gave birth to him at a dance. I find that pretty amazing because his more fast-paced songs are definitely great dance songs. Check out one of my newfound favorite's from Ferrer below.

A Must Read - "The Known World"
Have you ever started reading a book and once you've finally gotten to that point where you're really into it you know you're in for something deep? That's how I felt shortly after I started reading Edward P. Jones' "The Known World." I'm not even halfway done and I'm already really drawn into the story. In a nutshell, "The Known World" is the story of a former slave in Virginia who now owns slaves of his own. Although this sounds quite absurd former slaves owning slaves was somewhat the norm in the South prior to the conclusion of the Civil War. It really amazes me that one can go through slavery and somehow buy themselves out of slavery only to purchase slaves of their own.
"The Known World" has won numerous awards including the much distinguished Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. For those of you interested in reading "The Known World" here's a brief synopsis of the book.
"In one of the most acclaimed novels in recent memory, Edward P. Jones, two-time National Book Award finalist, tells the story of Henry Townsend, a black farmer and former slave who falls under the tutelage of William Robbins, the most powerful man in Manchester County, Virginia. Making certain he never circumvents the law, Townsend runs his affairs with unusual discipline. But when death takes him unexpectedly, his widow, Caldonia, can't uphold the estate's order and chaos ensues. In a daring and ambitious novel, Jones has woven a footnote of history into an epic that takes an unflinching look at slavery in all of its moral complexities."

Lush Life: Tommy Bahama Rum Summer Cocktails
As I’m sure many of us already know, one of the best ways to beat the heat this summer is to indulge in a delicious cocktail or two. One of my favorite liquors to make summer cocktails with is rum. Is it a coincidence that “rum” rhymes with “yum?” I think not! It’s smooth, sometimes sweet, and downright delicious. Over the past few weeks I was able to sample various cocktails made with Tommy Bahama Rum’s Golden Sun Rum and White Sand Rum. Below I've posted the recipes to five of my favorite cocktails.
The first three cocktails: Tommy’s Classic Mojito, Mai-Tommy, and Blue Hawaiian are all based on Tommy Bahama recipes. The pina colada recipe was found on the Coco Lopez Website and The Cherry Bomb was my own creation.
Blue Hawaiian
1 part Tommy Bahama White Sand Rum
1 part blue Curacao
1 part coconut cream
2 parts pineapple juice
Pour all ingredients into a blender with a scoop of crushed ice. Blend until smooth. Pour into a hurricane glass and garnish with a fresh pineapple slice and maraschino cherry.
The Blue Hawaiian is pretty much the blue version of the pina colada although for some reason even though the tastes are similar I still prefer the pina colada. I guess that blue-hue can be a little intimidating.
Mai Tommy
1 part Tommy Bahama White Sand Rum
1 part Tommy Bahama Golden Sun Rum
½ parts coconut rum
2 parts orange juice
2 parts pineapple juice
Splash of grenadine
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into a chilled martini glass garnished with an orange slice and maraschino cherry.
I personally loved this drink because of the various fruit juices. The combination of the different fruits make this an ideal cocktail for the summer months. Perfect for BBQ’s and other outdoor functions.
Tommy’s Classic Mojito
2 parts Tommy Bahama White Sand Rum
1 teaspoon superfine sugar
The juice of one lime
1 bunch of fresh mint
Dash of sparkling soda
Crushed ice
Muddle ingredients in a shaker, add ice and rum. Shake well and pour into a chilled tall cocktail glass. Add sparkling soda, garnish with a mint sprig.
I prefer my cocktails fruity and strong so you won’t hear me raving about the mojito anytime soon. I did give it a shot for the sake of this review and it really isn’t that bad. It's actually quite the refreshing cocktail. It reminds me of a minty Sprite with alcohol in it. Crazy description, right?
Classic Pina Colada
2 ounces Coco Lopez Cream of Coconut
2 ounces pineapple juice
1½ ounces Tommy Bahama White Sand Rum
1 cup of ice
Mix all ingredients into a blender until smooth. Pour into a tall glass and garnish with pineapple slice.
I’m pretty much convinced that a pina colada made with quality rum like Tommy Bahama Rum (and an extra shot) is the best drink EVER. I was in heaven drinking this bad boy. I'm salivating just typing about it. Okay, not really but the Tommy Bahama Rum pina colada is nothing short of amazing.
The Cherry Bomb (My personal recipe!)
2 parts Tommy Bahama Golden Sun Rum
1 part Diet Cherry Pepsi
The juice of one lime
Combine all ingredients in a glass. Mix with a stirrer. Garnish with a sliced lime and maraschino cherry.
As a cocktail enthusiast I was a little disappointed to find out that my own special little recipe tasted pretty blah. The week I made this cocktail I was trying to eat somewhat healthy so I wanted to create a cocktail that wasn’t as high in calories. I think it’s the diet soda that killed it. That stuff really is nasty. I think it could actually be a decent drink with a little adjustments here and there.
The review above is based on samples I received of Tommy Bahama Rum.

Shortomatic's Artist Designed Board Shorts
For those of you looking for an alternative to your sometimes bland and uninspiring board shorts you may want to check out Shortomatic.com. Shortomatic provides a number of artist designed board shorts that are both visually appealing and a quality product. If you aren't feeling any of the shorts on the Shortomatic Website (which I doubt) then you can actually design your own pair on Shortomatic.com using whatever graphics you like. Both the artist designed shorts and the "Create Your Own" pair are available for purchase for a little over $100. The price may be somewhat steep, but keep in mind that you are getting a quality product that is custom printed and sewn to order.
I was able to check out a few sample pairs of Shortomatic board shorts and I was really impressed with the graphics. I received three pairs of women's board shorts and three pairs of men's. Surprisingly enough, I found that I was way more impressed with the women's board shorts then I was with the men's. I usually find that with brands that sell both women's and men's clothing women usually end up getting the short end of the stick when it comes to designs and graphics. So I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the women's shorts.
My favorite pair is easily the "Snarl" board short designed by Ashley Johnson(pictured below). The graphics are amazingly vivid. I was showing someone that particular pair of board shorts and they thought the graffiti was actually sprayed on. Below are pictures of the three women's sample board shorts I received for review including the pair I just mentioned.
Snarl - Ashley Johnson
Bunny - Claudia Hek
iWonder - William Cawley
Be sure to hit up Shortomatic.com if you're interested in buying a pair.

Free Willy Fail (Video)
A 30-foot-long, 40-ton whale had a bit of a Free Willy moment this week when he attempted to jump on or over (I'm not really clear of which) a yacht in South Africa. A video of the incident has just been released and has dispelled rumors that a picture that made its way onto the internet of the whale jumping on the boat was Photoshopped. Luckily, neither the whale or the couple on board was injured in the accident. Although I'm pretty sure the cast of "Whale Wars" are making their way to the coast of South Africa right now with water cannons ready.
P.S. If you've never watched "Whale Wars" then you probably have no idea what I'm talking about so just move on to the video.

Picture Diaries: Vagabond Arts Fashion Show
Last night at HALO's Fashion Bliss, Meghan McKendree of Vagabond Arts celebrated the debut of her line of jewelry with an exceptional fashion show. Ladies and even a few gentleman strutted down the walkways of HALO clad in body paint and tribal art, rocking various pieces of jewelry from Vagabond Arts. The soundtrack for the evening was provided by Atlanta's own DJ Kemit.
I've been lucky enough to check out a few fashions shows in both New York City and Atlanta and Meghan's definitely was one of the most enjoyable. I loved the creativity and the overall vibe in general was really positive. Check out a few flix I got while attending the fashion show.

"Bad Girls Club Miami" - Episode 1 Review
This weekend I had the opportunity to check out the first episode of "Bad Girls Club Miami" before its premiere early next month and let me tell you these chics are off the chain. I'm sure that's no surprise, but wow! As the title states the show has relocated to the city of Miami and I think the change of scenery was a nice change. Although I am starting to feel somewhat bad for Miami. They've got "Basketball Wives," "Jersey Shore," and now "Bad Girls Club." Must be rough.
In typical "Bad Girl" fashion the show started off with friendly hugs and moderately pleasant meet and greets, but ultimately ended in a house divided. Personalities clashed and resulted in the creation of two cliques in the house. Surprise, surprise...
Here's my take on the cast of "Bad Girls Club Miami."
The most irritating of the bunch is Morgan, a Miami resident who thinks (emphasis on "thinks") she's the most gorgeous girl in Miami. Like Natalie from the last season of "Bad Girls Club" Morgan claims to be quite the mover and shaker in her city. Of course the other ladies are extremely leery of that (and for good reason). Mark my words, she's definitely going to be an issue in the house.
Morgan
The stripper chic Brandy kinda scares me. I'm not gonna lie. She's one to watch out for. Who knows what kind of stripper attack moves she's ready to try out. I'm not really sure what to think about Danielle. I kinda like her then at the same time I kinda don't. Makes no sense, right? In a way Danielle and another castmate, Erica, kind of remind me of Ailea from a few seasons ago. And I was definitely not feeling that chic.
My favorites right now are Lea and Kristen. Lea's kind of the punk-rockish type and during the first episode she chose not to partake in some shadyness and that gets the Episode 1 approval from me. Kristen, she's just funny. She's clearly the get completely wasted and act like a complete moron type, but she made me chuckle a bit.
After watching the first episode Catya, a video vixen who has been linked to various rappers/celebs, seems like the castmate you're least likely to talk about the next day because she didn't stand out at all. I mean that's definitely a good thing in the scheme of things, but not when you're a character (yes, character) on a reality show.
Catya
Although entertaining the first episode of "Bad Girls Club Miami" is pretty reminiscent of past premieres of the show. You have one girl complaining about wanting to go home the first day, acts of extreme drunkenness, the creation of clique's, drinks being throw in each others faces, exposed body parts, and a crazy, cliffhanger ending that is sure to have you watching the next episode of "Bad Girls Club Miami."
Oh wait! The episode does include an appearance from some "Jersey Shore" rejects and a few fist pumps! That's definitely new.
Guido Love!
"Bad Girls Club Miami" premieres on Tuesday, August 3 at 9/8 Central on Oxygen.

Mel Gibson Is A Tard
I kind of got scolded in the comments section awhile ago when I referred to someone as a "retard" or "tard" (can't remember which) in a post. But it's not my fault if "Mel Gibson Is A Tard" is such a fitting title for this post! It's Mel Gibson's fault! Take that! Take that! And take a look/listen at some of the hilarity that has followed Mel Gibson's now infamous phone blow-up.

Killer Mike Previews Track From New Album
Killer Mike (a.k.a Mike Bigga) recently gave journalist Maurice Garland a sneak peak at "Burn," a track on his upcoming album entitled Pl3dge Allegiance To The Grind. Killer Mike also spoke briefly on who we can expect on the album and it looks like the album may include appearances from YelaWolf, Mickey Factz, Emilio Rojas, Sean Falyon, Pill, Big K.R.I.T. and more. Pretty amazing, right? Check out video footage of Killer Mike speaking on the album below.
Oh and Killer Michael if you're reading this (which I'm sure you're not) do you really have to call the new album Pl3dge Allegiance To The Grind? I mean, I'm really not a big fan of the whole numbers as letters thing. What about adding a little French flair instead? I Pledge Allegiance To The Grind Part Trois? No? I mean, non? Okay, maybe not. Whatever floats your boat homeskillet.
Oh, and shout out to Killer Mike for actually acknowledging the Oscar Grant case. Other rappers take note.

Gamer Alert: Call Of Duty Black Ops Box Art
I give you the final box art for the latest Call Of Duty game Black Ops...Tah Daaah!
I don't consider myself a gamer, but I do play a few games here and there. They're definitely enjoyable. Only thing is I kinda suck at them and I get easily frustrated so I never seem to get past the first or second level lol. Oh well, at least it's fun trying. This latest Call Of Duty game definitely looks intense and I'm sure a lot of gamer's out there are looking forward to its release like it was the second coming of Jesus or something. Unfortunately, they still have a little bit of a wait. Call Of Duty: Black Ops won't be released until November 9.
Click here to check out a trailer of the game featuring music from Eminem.

Earthly Body Glow Oil (Review)
About a week ago I posted a review of Earthly Body's Love hair care line. I was also lucky enough to try out their Glow Oil moisturizer.
The Glow Oil comes in a variety of scents including Morrocan Nights, Skinny Dip, High Tide, Wild Surf, and more. I was able to sample the Skinny Dip scent and I'm in love with it. If you've ever walked into a Sephora store and smelled Aquolina's Pink Sugar line then you know exactly what the Glow Oil Skinny Dip scent smells like. They are that similar.
I was a little skeptical about using an oil during these summer months since it's so humid out. So instead of putting the Glow Oil on my entire body I've been using it on my legs. It actually absorbs pretty fast for an oil and it really does give your skin more of a glow than a shine...if that makes sense at all. I kind of equate shine with the skin being greasy or slick and you don't get that with the Glow Oil because it absorbs into the skin so fast.
I've had the Glow Oil for about two weeks now and I've used it everyday. The scent has definitely got me hooked, but it really is a good product. And this is coming from someone who thought that using an oil as a substitute for lotion was absurd. Now I see the light lol.
Glow Oil is available for purchase on EarthlyBody.com for $15.99 (8 oz. bottle). Oh, and they also sell an edible version of Glow Oil ;-)
The review above is based on samples I received.

Oh Oxford!
Who would have thought the Oxford shoe would come back so strong. I definitely didn't, but I'm digging the new trend. I've never really been one for four-inch heels and stilettos so of course I'm welcoming the Oxford comeback.
It always amazes me when fashion repeats itself. In fact, I can hardly think of any fashion trends today that weren't popular in the 70's, 80's or 90's. Skinny jeans maybe?
Anywho, take a look at some of my favorite Oxford looks. All shoes are available for purchase on UrbanOutfitters.com.

Wipeout FTW!
Now that "LOST" is over I've pretty much given up on television except on Tuesday's and Thursday's at 8 p.m. EST when "Wipeout" comes on. This show is beyond awesome! It reminds me of "Wild N Crazy Kidz," that game show that used to come on Nickelodeon back in the 90's. I love how anyone can be on the show. It doesn't matter what you look like, how old you are, what your occupation is, etc.
"Wipeout" is actually casting for season four and I'm applying as I'm writing this. Not simultaneously of course. I'd probably be the second to last worst contestant, but whatever it's all for fun. If anyone else is interested in applying for the show visit the Website for Mystic Art Pictures. Wish me luck!

Dr. Seuss Chuck Taylor Collection
I am absolutely in love with this Dr. Seuss Chuck Taylor collection! I wrote about the collection earlier today for RefinedHype.com, but I just had to post something on here about the collection as well. I'm not much of a sneaker head, but when I am looking for a new pair of kicks Converse is always the first place I look. Not only are all their sneakers very affordable, but they also have really impressive collections like this new Dr. Seuss one.
I might really have to cop a pair from this collection I'm just unsure of which pair I want. I've always leaned towards the high-top sneaker so I'm thinking either the orange pair with the killer sole (pictured above) or the white pair with the "Cat In The Hat" themed laces. What do ya'll think? What pair would you rock?
If you're interested in buying a pair prices range from $45 to $65.

Sneak Peek Of Pharrell On MTV's "When I Was 17"
I have yet to check out an episode of MTV's new series "When I Was 17" thanks to my lack of cable, but it seems like an interesting show. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the show it basically features various celebrities speaking on what their life was like when they were 17. Drake, Khloe Kardashian, and a number of other celebs have been featured on the show.
Take a look at a sneak peek of producer/rapper Pharrell Williams on "When I Was 17." The episode will air this Saturday at 11 a.m. ET/PT on MTV.
And LOL at Pharrell and Pusha-T riding around on a scooter together. They've definitely come a long way.

Friday's At 595 North (ATL)
For those of you looking for something to do this Friday (or any other Friday for that matter) you should definitely check out Friday's At 595 North. It kicks off this Friday, July 9. The best part is it's free until 11 p.m. (after that it's 10 bucks) and there's an open bar from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.! This is clearly the new Friday night spot for all us broke folks in The A. Check out the flyer below for more info.

All Lace Everything
I'm not really one for trends, but I must admit I'm in love with the lace trend! It's sexy, it's fun, and it's ultra-feminine. I really see it as more of a fall/winter look, but if you feel like rocking your lace this summer then by all means go for it! Personally, I'm a fan of the lace leggings especially when paired with boots and a cute dress.
If you need a little inspiration then check out some of Express' new, lacy looks. Oh, and how fly is that lace tank top?! (pictured below on the right)
