I'm about 110 percent sure that everyone in Atlanta knows about the Red Bull Soundclash event taking place this Sunday, November 14 but I just had to post the details on here in case some poor soul is out of the loop. From the description it sounds like Soundclash, which will feature both The Roots and Shiny Toy Guns, is more of a live mashing up of genre's rather than a battle of the bands. Details below...

Last night, I had the opportunity to see music icons Goodie Mob, The Roots, Common, and Boyz II Men perform live. It was AMAZING!
Both shows were great. I got to see Goodie Mob perform two of my favorite songs by them, "Soul Food" and "Beautiful Skin." And the environment was crazy! You could tell that everyone in Masquerade Park was feeling it...white people, black people, Hispanic people, everyone! They definitely gave us a reason to "Remember Atlanta." I really hope that as a result of Goodie Mob's monumental show that folks here will give more respect to the artists who paved the way for Atlanta Hip Hop.
Over at Hennessy Artistry, Common was bringing it with songs like "Used To Love H.E.R." and "The People", backed by The Roots. Aside from stellar performances by The Roots and Common, we were also treated to a surprise performance by legendary R&B group Boyz II Men. The audience went CRAZY, singing along to classic songs like "End Of The Road" and "Motown Philly."
I was able to get some FlipCam footage from both events, but please keep in mind that I failed FlipCam 101 and big, football player looking dudes like to stand directly in front of me whenever I'm trying to film something. But I did the best I could. Enjoy!
I have to admit I was a little excited to read an e-mail this afternoon about the fourth annual Hennessy Artistry tour. Whenever there's great music and liquor involved it's bound to be a good time. And there will indeed be great music with The Roots and Common headlining the tour which will be making stops in Atlanta (yay!), Chicago, New York, and Houston in September/October.
Although I covered the red carpet for the finale of the event in New York City last year I wasn't actually able to check out the show. By the time I decided to head in for the performances (and free liquor) security was already claiming they were at capacity, you know, the whole fire hazard mumbo jumbo.
I can't front though, even though I wasn't allowed in I still had a decent time. Met some cool folks on the red carpet and got some decent quotes from artists attending the event.
I've been dying to see The Roots perform live so I will definitely be checking out this years show. For more information on Hennessy Artistry series click here.
The Roots have got to be hands down the most hard-working group in the game. Not only are they the in-house band for the Jimmy Fallon show, but they also perform at the Highline Ballroom several times a month as part of a residency they started months ago. Unfortunately, I have yet to actually attend one of The Roots' jam sessions but I've heard it's off the chain.
For those of you who have yet to check it out Highline Ballroom has just announced that The Roots will continue their residency in September. Dates are as follows: September 1 September 8 September 15 September 21 September 29
I've always found the chorus to this song inspirational, even today. It actually seems even more relevant in today's day and age. Hopefully, sacrifice will eventually pay off.
