Perfect Attendance Announce Pimpin' SXSW Lineup

So if you follow me on Twitter you'll have to pardon my extremely sarcastic "I'm not going to SXSW and if you are you suck" Tweets and other randomness...



But I'm not a complete jerk so if I hear about a few pimpin' SXSW showcases I'll definitely spread the word. Take for instance the Perfect Attendance show, they've just revealed their lineup and it looks pretty pimpin'. (Please excuse my excessive use of the word "pimpin" today. Apparently I think I'm Snoop Dogg.) Here are just a handful of the acts you can expect to see at the SXSW Perfect Attendance showcase: Big K.R.I.T., Blu, Cyhi Da Prynce, Freddie Gibbs, Tanya Morgan, Laws, and Aleon Craft.

Waka Flocka's PETA Pic...Awwwkward

Earlier this week PETA released a picture from their "Ink Not Mink" campaign with Waka Flocka and ummm it's definitely not what I expected. I was expecting something a little more "polished" I guess. And I definitely didn't expect his bling to be covering his thing. Ha! Well, see for yourself ladies and gents.

Red Bull EmSee Event In ATL

September is truly turning out to be a great month for music, as far as album releases and events are concerned. Aside from the Slaughterhouse/Killer Mike and Goodie Mob shows happening later this month in ATL we also have the FREE Red Bull Emsee event going down on September 23.

The event, which will be an emcee battle revolving around images, will be judged by 9th Wonder, Adeem, and Talib Kweli. Talib Kweli will also be performing. Check out the flyer for more information.

I'm Checking This Out Tonight

For all my NYC people, the folks at TheSource.com and SOB's are putting on an international Hip Hop showcase tonight. It's only $10 and for the youngin's out there it's an 18 and up show (I think).

I'll more than likely be checking it out. Can't go wrong with good music and SOB's extensive (although expensive) drink menu.

Oh, and if I do attend you can definitely expect some FlipCam footage on here tomorrow ;-)

Rapper vs. MC

Before, I really get into this blog I want to first give the Webster's definition of both rapper and MC.

Rapper: one that raps or is used for rapping: as a: a door knocker b: a performer of rap music.
MC (Master of Ceremony) 1: a person who determines the forms to be observed on a public occasion 2 : a person who acts as host at a formal event 3 : a person who acts as host for a program of entertainment (as on television).

I was talking to someone a little while ago about the words MC and rapper. The person I was talking to believed that an MC is someone that really keeps themselves true to Hip-Hop as far as lyrics and image and that a rapper is someone who raps not out of passion, but to gain commercial appeal like a lot of mainstream artists we see today.

My opinion on the matter is that the words MC and rapper basically mean the same thing. The term MC was created first and from what I know the MC was pretty much a hypeman for the DJ. I just feel that since the term MC originated during the birth of Hip-Hop and the word rapper was incorporated a little later, some people might think the label of MC makes you more authentic opposed to the term rapper which may seem more mainstream.

I'm sure there probably are a lot of people who may not necessarily agree with me, but I would love to hear everyone's opinion on the matter.
